About Our Samaj

Sri Bangalore Ghoghari Visasrimali Jain Samaj was originally formed as Sri Bangalore Ghoghari Visasrimali Jain Gnati on 27.09.1964. The term Ghoghari referes to people from Saurashtra region of Gujarat. In early part of previous century, some of our members migrated from Gujarat & other places and made Bangalore their home. In Gujarati community as a whole they were the early settlers in Bangalore. Far away from their original home town, they settled in Bangalore primarily to do business. Some of the early members from Ghoghari Samaj who settled in Bangalore were Paldiwala Desai Jasraj Dayalji & Desai Nemchand Velchand, Vartejwala Shah Tarachand Gandalal & Shah Harichand Premchand, Umrala (Bhavnagar) wala Girdharlal Damodardas, Kajavadarwala Shah Girdharlal Zaverchand & Rajparawala Kuverji Jethabhai. Beginning with a small branch, it has now blossomed into a big tree. Probably they had anticipated that due to availability of ample opportunity, a lot of members from Gujarat & other places would migrate to Bangalore. They had the vision to form Ghoghari Gnati of our members settled in Bangalore so that theyl mingle with each other and have unity amongst them. One of our members had a great fore sight. He founded a school way back in 1917 named Desai Velchand Vasram Gujarati Shala in the heart of the city i.e. Majestic area. Today we have 450 families in Bangalore. When our elders formed Ghoghari Gnati, they also included families from Sorath & Halar as at that time there were very few families in all the 3 branches. This vision of our elders was a very wise step as all the three branches have mingled with each other very well like sugar getting mixed in milk.

Our elders laid a very strong foundation for the Gnati. Foremost names are Late Nanchand Gulabchand Shah, Late Sri Keshavlal Tribhovandas Shah, Late Hiralal Girdharlal Shah, Late Sri Chatrabhuj Bechardas Shah. It is worthwhile to note that initially there were very few families settled in Bangalore. Hence networking with members of our Gnati in South India was essential for various reasons. In the year 1976 a conference was held in Bangalore comprising members from South India . Our Gnati members from Mysore, Tiptur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad-Secunderabad, etc. participated.

In the year 1975 first South India Members Directory (Vastipatrak) was published. Later on, it was updated and published in the year 1992 and again in the year 2000.

Due to changes in laws and to keep abreast with the modern time, Annual General Body Meeting of our members was called and it was formally agreed to register our Gnati under Societies Registration Act. Accordingly by-laws were finalized and Sri Bangalore Ghoghari Visasrimali Jain Samaj was formed and registered with Registrar of Societies under Societies Registration Act in the year 2012. Our Samaj organizes annual get together of our members, awards prizes to meritorious students of our Samaj, extends help to needy members for education, medical, provision, etc
